DAN JOYCE is originally from Stuart, VA and is a BFA graduate of the North Carolina School of the Arts. He began his professional career with the Maryland Dance Theater and Concert Dance Company of Boston. In 1988, he was selected to join the Mark Morris Dance Group with whom he performed for ten years. Dan appeared in over thirty works choreographed by Mark Morris, including several opera and film projects. Since joining the George Mason University School of Dance faculty in 1999, where he received his MFA in 2003, he has choreographed for the Mason Dance Company, Theater of the First Amendment, DeSales University, and for the In Series. While at Mason, Dan was rehearsal director for eight works by Mark Morris, produced by the School of Dance and also for dances by Lar Lubovitch, Bill T. Jones, Kyle Abraham, and Alejandro Cerrudo, among others. He has been a popular teacher for numerous regional and national festivals and has also served on the faculties of the Virginia Governor's School, the School of The Washington Ballet, the Citydance Center at Strathmore, and for the Summer Stages Workshop at Concord Academy. He has participated on numerous funding panels and advisory committees for various arts organizations in the metro DC area. Dan retired from GMU in 2022 and makes his home in North Redington Beach, FL.
